The message selection window contains several controls and a browser of messages in the mailbox, either of the entire mailbox or "zoomed" in on messages which are selected in the entire mailbox. Messages in the browser may be selected in the same way as selecting in a matrix in other applications. Double-clicking any message in the browser will cause that message to be read.\
The following buttons operate on the mailbox as a whole:\
\b . Exit
\b0 causes an expunge of the mailbox (see below) and then closes this window. To close the window without an expunge, use the close box.\
\b . New Mailbox...
\b0 prompts for a mailbox name as when initially opening a mailbox, and replaces the current mailbox in this window with the new one. This is a fast way to move from one mailbox to another.\
\b . Expunge
\b0 causes all deleted messages to be permanently removed from the mailbox. This is an irreversable operation.\
\b . Check
\b0 causes a check for new mail in the mailbox, and causes the entire mailbox browser to be updated to show the new messages. If the window is zoomed you must do some other operation (such as selecting new messages) to get those messages to appear in the zoomed browser. This differs from the implicit new-mail checking which is done automatically at periodic intervals. The implicit new-mail checking is a "fast" check;
\b Check
\b0 is an explicit "slow" check.\
The meaing of a "slow" check depends upon the type of mailbox being accessed. For local Berkeley-format mailboxes, a "slow" check checkpoints all the deletions, flagging, etc. that you have made to the mailbox. For local Tenex-format mailboxes, a "slow" check also reparses all the message flags to see if some other process has updated them. For remote mailboxes, it depends upon the individual server what difference (if any) there is between "slow" and "fast" checking.\
\b . Help
\b0 opens this window.\
The following buttons operate on messages selected in the message browser:\
\b . Read
\b0 opens a message reading window.\
\b . Select
\b0 opens a message selection panel, through which you can cause various messages in the mailbox to be selected via various criteria.\
. Reply
\b0 pops up a menu.
\b Reply...
\b0 will reply only to the reply address, whereas
\b Reply to All...
\b0 . will reply to the reply address and all recipients of the message(s). The PasteBoard is initialized with the text of the message being replied to, with a suitable header and `>' quoting. Note that this does not work well if you are replying to more than one message at a time; only the last message will be set up in this way.\
. Forward...
\b0 pops up a menu.
\b Forward...
\b0 composes a message with the message(s) being forwarded enclosed in the body of the message.
\b Remail...
\b0 sends the original message, with the addition of "ReSent-xx" headers, so any replies go to the original sender of the message. Caution and discretion is advised in remailing!!\
\b . Print...
\b0 produces a hardcopy of the message(s).\
\b . Copy...
\b0 pops up a menu.
\b Copy...
\b0 opens a modal panel prompting for a destination mailbox, and will make a copy of the message(s) in that mailbox.
\b Move...
\b0 does this and then deletes the message(s) in the source mailbox.\
\b . Keyword...
\b0 pops up a menu.
\b Keyword...
\b0 opens a modal panel prompting for a set of keyword(s) to be set on the message(s).
\b Clear Keyword...
\b0 behaves in a similar fashion to clear the keywords. \
\b . Delete
\b0 pops up a menu.
\b Delete
\b0 will mark the message(s) as being deleted (and to be removed from the mailbox in a subsequent expunge).
\b Undelete
\b0 clears the deleted status.\
\b . Flag
\b0 pops up a menu.
\b Flag
\b0 will mark the message(s) as being urgent.
\b Unflag
\b0 clears the flagged status.\
The following switches control the state of the mailbox:\
\b . Debug
\b0 controls whether or not protocol telemetry related to this mailbox is logged in the telemetry window.\
\b . Zoom
\b0 controls whether or not the browser scrolls through all the messages in the mailbox, or just those messages which are selected. A zoomed browser, sometimes called a "zoomer", has its own set of selected messages.\
